Updated our Mission Statement

Mostly just added the documentary mission statement as it's different than the book's. By the way, we interviewed some people the weekend before last for a little promo piece we're putting together to accompany the grant proposal. Perhaps we'll post it here as well when it's done. Oh, and we're headed down to San Diego this weekend to get some paddling pix and to get interviews about paddling on tape. We'll be sure to post some pix when we get back and might be able to cut together a little something out of the video we get as well, but don't hold me to that.

Here is the Mission Statement page, or you can just click on 'Our Mission' in the menu to the left.

Have a great weekend!

Get the World Triathlon Corporation OUT of Hawaii – New Petition

Just wrote a petition this morning about the World Triathlon Corporation. Here's the link:
www.petitiononline.com/808noWTC

And here's the petition statement in its entirety:

To: Hawaii State Legislature, Governor Linda Lingle, Senator Daniel Akaka, Senator Daniel Inouye

Beginning in 2005, the World Triathlon Corporation launched five different copyright infringement cases against organizations for alleged illegal use of the term 'Ironman' of which they claimed to own the exclusive copyright. In 2007 they launched a single suit against Kai Elua, a non-profit outrigger canoe club in San Diego, another non-profit named the Southern California Outrigger Racing Association as well as four individual private citizens who had at one point been officers of either of the two non-profits.

Fact #1: While the first Ironman Triathlon competition was staged in 1977, there is solid evidence that outrigger canoe clubs have used the term 'Ironman' to refer to a particular part of their season as far back as the 1950s.

Fact #2: Outrigger canoe club racing is a Polynesian-based sport that teaches cooperation, team spirit and the general pursuit of personal and group-based betterment.
